Discipleship PDF Print E-mail

Discipleship is learning to live life as God intends. In particular, it is simply following the teaching & practice of Jesus.

Part of this is eagerness to learn, which is why LWCC aspires to be a learning community, where each member actively seeks to grow & personally develop through learning, character formation & spiritual empowering for service.

Learning

Sunday morning is the only time when the whole church gathers together on a weekly basis. Usually a message is given which aims to catch hold of how God is leading us, or to clarify some aspect of Christian discipleship.

Additionally, LWCC runs courses throughout the year with the aim of broadening our understanding of what it means to be a disciple of Christ. Some of these present a teaching, some of them provoke discussion, & some of them are opportunites to practise spiritual disciplines such as how to read the Bible, how to think logically, how to pray, how to relate, etc.

A tremendous team of workers also run our Children's Church & youth programmes, which aim to inspire our young people to live for God.

Character formation

It is in the daily interactions of real life with other people that our character is formed. Our understanding of Christ-like character is guided by the scriptures, & our honest engagements with one another in community help to form the people who we are. We believe that Jesus sets godly and good standards of moral conduct and behaviour, & that life is better when we have the courage & moral power to do what is right.

Spiritual empowering

Jesus promised to leave us a Helper to empower us. Part of our discipleship is learning how to engage with the Holy Spirit and use the tools He gives us for service. Thus we emphasise both the receiving of spiritual power from God and the use of that power in service of others. LWCC runs a number of departments which exist to serve others, either as part of our mission projects, or simply to keep the life of the church running smoothly.

Prayer Team PDF Print E-mail

At Living Word we believe in prayer. God is constant in character, but the world and its circumstances are arbitrary and untrustworthy. Prayer is one way we get to influence the world God has given us.

There is a dedicated prayer team, which is available to pray for anyone who wants someone to pray with or to stand with them in prayer. Often, we invite people to receive special prayer on Sunday mornings, and ongoing prayers can be written in the Prayer Room, either on Prayer boards or in the prayer book.

Pastoral help PDF Print E-mail

The Bible tells us that God appoints pastors to help people. Just a a shepherd leads his flock to places where they can find pasture to feed on and water to refresh themselves, so pastoring is the art of creating an environment where people can find spiritual food and drink to grow into bigger people on the inside.

At LWCC, all members are connected to Discovery Groups, & these groups represent the primary point of contact for help with particular issues. These groups support each other with ordinary things they need help with, visit each other when sick or in need, & pray for one another.

When people need extra assistance in the tough things of life, there is also a pastoral team which is available to talk through issues with, a prayer team who offer help in connecting with God in prayer, and a care team which assists with practical help when required.

The pastoral team at Living Word is available to talk and pray with anyone who wants to go deeper with God, or who has problems in their life or faith.

The LWCC Pastoral Team consists of people who are committed to the life of the church, who love and know God and people, and who have experience of life.

Sundays PDF Print E-mail

ilovesundaySunday Mornings at LWCC are made up of many different strands, so there's something for everyone.

At 10am we have a time of prayer in our prayer room, and anyone who is interested is welcome to join at this point. From there, our service starts at 11am though the format from this point will often change from week to week. There'll be times of prayer, worship and a message, though not necessary in that order and always in a different balance. Often we receive words of exhortation or encouragement from God.

A special feature of Sundays for many years is the support of the Haven students, who worship with us.

For our younger members or visitors there are a variety of options, such as Creche, Children's Church or Youth Church. Check with a steward or Marion at the information desk before the service starts if you are unsure about which one of these would suit you.

After the service finishes there is always a chance to catch up with friends and make some new ones as we go through into our cafe area and have some tea and coffee (and often a Greggs bun!).
